what is phonological typology

Can someone explain what phonological typology is and give examples? Thanks!

Typology is generally just comparative linguistics, and more literally about finding types/patterns across languages.

So phonological typology would include things like comparing how many and which vowels are found in different languages, and also finding correlations. For example, do languages tend to have any particular vowels? (Yes, the cardinal vowels.) And so forth, including, of course, various much more specific questions.
