increasing valence of a verb?
« on: March 19, 2014, 11:06:12 PM »
Question: If a suffix changes "go" to "visit", am I correct in postulating that this same suffix may be said to be increasing the valence? Is it at least a theoretically plausible explanation? Or is this a misconstrual of what it means to increase valence?

Yes. It may be an applicative suffix although that isn't the most canonical example of that.
