Etymology Game
« on: January 28, 2018, 10:56:26 AM »
Hey, guys!
I've just taken some time to finish my educative web-game about linguistics. You can find it here:

I believe I've greatly improved the algorithm since the last time I posted here. The text-based version, mostly made of the algorithm for generating pairs of words as if they were in related languages, is now around 450 lines of code. I hope that it now produces the results that are realistic enough. Like I've said elsewhere, it would be very hard to change the format of the formal phonological descriptions of languages because I'd have to implement a tokenizer if I want to make a format that has a whitespace between the law and the conditioning rule and use it to make correct line-breaks, and JavaScript is a terrible language for such things.

By the way, Daniel, I am amazed that you can make such a wonderful website that works in Internet Explorer 6. I could never make anything functional limiting myself to the JavaScript and CSS that were available back in IE6.
