Here's a great episode from the Vsauce youtube channel on a lot of the history, discussion, and mathematics behind Zipf's law:

Bravo jkpate,

Some years ago i saw this video and went to the corpus and saw first most used words, the same did when i went in
wikipedia there also has page with 100 most used words and i concentrated on these. it was very hard with little words as ON, OFF, OF, UP, DOWN... They don't change BUT works as adverbs, prepositions, adjectives... and in that is difficultness, let say in russian their equivalents a little change according to the service they provide. In that part english is extremely difficult to me. Also i tried that trick in russian but there sites were not good or missing i forgot already.

The trick from the VIDEO i use when read books. I don't go to the dictionary every time i see unknown word.
I guess what it is - verb, noun, adjective... and IF IT IS IMPORTANT then i'll see it again. This video was extremely useful for me in the language part.

I saw it again now. Thanks.
