Title: help!
Post by: sony on May 10, 2014, 12:35:19 PM
Hi! I'm a student of Master's of Didactics (English). First language acquisition is a subject that I'm studying this year. Our teacher gave us an assignement. We are asked to write an essay of 800 words in which we discuss the following idea: During the process of first language acquisition, children bear no notions about language and are shaped by their environment, slowly conditioned through various forms of reinforcement. Discuss
Could you help on that, please? Thank you in advance

I don't know how we can help you without answering the question for you-- this is your assignment, so I believe you should be able to do it. The idea is very simple: children learn language naturally (for example, not in a classroom with a textbook). If you have a specific question for us, please ask :)

It looks like the teacher is also wanting you to discuss issues of nativism (children have a lot of information about language and how to learn it genetically specified) and empiricism (children rely heavily on information from their environment but not on genetically specified information).
