Syntactic tree sentence diagram

Hey guys,

I am trying to analyse this sentence into word level, phrase level and sentence structure level. The IT teacher warned the children not to click on the link in any suspicious email’. . I have attempted it - please see attached file but I have that feeling it's just not right!!

I also need to know the direct speech for this reported sentence, I have come up with a possible answer but not too sure.

Direct speech:
1.   The IT teacher warned the children. Don’t click on the link in any suspicious email.
2.   Don’t click on the link in any suspicious email, the IT teacher warned.

Any help is highly appreciated.

If you have a specific question about the tree, we can try to help.

However:
1. We won't do homework for you (this looks like a homework problem!).
2. The 'answer' will be different for different theories and different classes/teachers/textbooks. So the best answer is the one in your book, provided by your teacher (during office hours?), or discussed with classmates (assuming that is allowed).

"Direct speech" usually refers to non-embedded speech, in other words, just the sentence alone. Your rephrasing is fine, but you can remove the part about "the IT teacher warned", I think.

Hi,

This is question is for one part of an assignment. I have done both the syntax tree diagram and the direct speech for the sentence - The IT teacher warned the children not to click on the link in any suspicious email’.

I have come up with the following sentence as direct speech: 1.   'The IT teacher said to the children “do not click on the link in any suspicious email”. warned the children. Don’t click on the link in any suspicious email'.

I have also attached the syntax tree to this message again for anyone who knows about syntax tree diagrams, binary branching.

Does anyone know if this tree diagram is correct or whether I need to use something referred to as layering (not sure).

Please take a look and let me know if the direct speech and syntax tree diagram is better.
