Title: Looking for videos on social implications of L1 transfer of intonation
Post by: Stevo on March 05, 2022, 03:56:51 PM
Hello all,
I had a teacher in my discourse analysis class show is some videos of grammatically identical scenarios that played out differently with a native UK English speaker and an English speaker from India that cane across as ride and accusatory simply because his accent was hitting different stress markers. Had anyone come across these or something similar? I remember that one of the scenarios was in a bank. I have vague memories that the study author might have been Gunther? But it's so long ago I could be incorrect.
If anyone has some natural conversation footage that demonstrates this, I'd be very grateful.

Steve

I'm not sure about the specific study you mentioned, but I wonder if this might be relevant in general:
