What is the difference between matter and situation?

In what context? Is this for a particular article or theory? Are you referring to technical usage, or to the colloquial meaning of those words? And if so, which sense of 'matter'? I suppose there's a particular sense in which they overlap closely, but it's a relatively rare use of 'matter'.
