Post by: mallu on April 03, 2014, 11:30:41 AM
Requiring as it does correlation between some position in a string and the c-commanding operator which determines its interpretation,

here what does this phrase"as it does" mean or what will happen to the meaning of the sentence if omit it.

What's the sentence? That phrase can mean several things.

Obviously it can be literal, but that's probably not what you mean.

One idiomatic usage I can think of is like the "as they say" or "as it goes" tag, but that's not a very common usage.

I can comment more if you can post a sentence.

Pl.See the complete sentence

Requiring as it does correlation between some position in a string and the c-commanding operator which determines its interpretation,it is uncontroversially assumed across different theoretical frameworks to involve an operator-variable binding phenomenon as in standard predicate logics

OH! I thought that was part of the syntactic argument. I didn't realize that was just the "data" for the question. Sorry about that :)

Ok--

It doesn't mean anything really. It's emphatic.

"Cats play, as they do, with yarn."
"Linguists study, as they do, languages."
"Complaining, as they do, teenagers can be hard to get along with."
"Having, as it does, three sides, a triangle is the simplest polygon."

It's a way of emphasizing the habitual/inherent nature of whatever activity is going on for the subject.
