Got any NFL fans here? My beloved Seahawks have made it to the Super Bowl for the second time in franchise history. I'm pretty excited about that. 8)

Guess I'm the only one. :)
-
Handegg is probably not very popular outside of the US!
;)
At least that's my personal intuition.
-
I don't have that excuse. I'm American but I prefer hockey. I'm not too into watching sports though in general.
Plus, what is rugby but European handegg?

Indeed, but rugby is the predecessor of american "football" ;)

Yeah, it's not very popular outside the US, but everybody seems to watch the Super Bowl regardless of whether or not they're invested in it in any way. I caught some of the playoff games in Budapest, there were some bars playing them with quite a few supporters on both sides.
Go Hawks!

I've always found superbowl Sunday to be a good day to go out. The streets are empty :p
-
I will not be able to watch the super bowl for I am far to interested in this superb owl:

That owl is definitely superb.

I think you'd be surprised just how popular it is outside the US. I really struggle find any sort of sense to it. You get British people, for example, who probably haven't paid any attention to American Football since the last Super Bowl, arguing about which team is better and who they support. Now, unless it's a phenomena I just can't understand, they must just want to dive into the hype and everyone is faking the enthusiasm to get in with the big-event-vibe.
Even here in Iceland it is receiving a lot of attention, whether for the amount of adverts for it, where it's possible to watch it on Sunday, recaps of the last season. There's a notable upsurge in the term Ofurskálin ("Super Bowl"). But they also have an obsession with English football that I wouldn't have expected from a country outside of the UK.
This obsession that takes over people (outside the US) for this event has boggled me for the last few years.

Yeah, it's a little weird. Most people, it seems, don't pay any attention to the regular season (or even the playoffs for the most part) but they all get tuned in for the Super Bowl. I occasionally run into legitimate fans of various teams (usually the Patriots, for whatever reason) in Europe who actually follow it and understand the rules, but I think in large part it's just joining the hype once a year. I don't mind though, I guess it's fun to have people all over the world talking about my home town for once. ;D
-
I think it's just too much to take in the regular season, too much investment - just like with soccer/football, I only pay attention to the world cup :)
...which is also this year! I forgot, it's 2014! How did that happen so fast?
I used to really like hockey, but then stopped... but after leaving Canada I miss it... Daniel what team do you support? I'm guessing it's not the Canucks ;)
-
I've never understood why everyone cares about whichever two teams are in the Super Bowl regardless of which team they support in general.
Cory, the San Jose sharks. Proximity to home. Not too closely now.

Interesting! I had no idea.

Hey look, Cory, the Canucks are Seahawks fans too. :)

Haha hey cool, now I have to support them! And I didn't catch that Seahawks = Seattle (this is how much I know about football lol), so there we go...
I like Seattle... that was the place I went shopping with girlfriends when I was younger :o)
Northwest Coast! Woot woot!
-
Yeah, I pretty much categorically support anything Vancouver-related too just by proximity. I used to go up there to drink before I turned 21 so it's the least I can do. :)
-
I saw a game in Vancouver a while ago. The sharks were in town. So for the moment I was the enemy. Both Seattle and Vancouver are nice cities. Was in Seattle for a linguistics conference a couple years ago.

I'm sure you'll all be relieved to hear that it was a total blowout with the Seahawks dominating 43-8. First Super Bowl victory in franchise history!
