Welcome to Linguist Forum!
I've split your question into a new thread. I hope someone will be able to help with it soon. The best I could do is check for an online dictionary, which you've probably already done. Perhaps an etymological dictionary of Arabic (not sure how accessible this information would be in English though) would also mention it.

According to the Chicago Assyrian Dictionary (CAD) (http://www.atour.com/library/cad/):
p. 126
lêmu (or leʾēmu, leʾāmu, leḫēmu, laḫāmu) v. 1. to take food or drink, 2. to soften (in the mouth), to crush
You'll have to figure out if this is actually etymologically related, though.
